We Made It!!

Well, we finally had him. It felt like i was pregnant forever but he's finally here and we're so happy!! So I'm going to talk about my labor experience now. First of all, we got the hospital at 6:00 a.m. and started the induction. I didn't make any progress for a very long time (12 hours). it was very frustrating. they couldn't put the internal monitors in me because the baby's head was in front of the cervix so they couldn't get around his head to insert the monitors until i was more dilated. because they couldn't monitor him internally, they couldn't up the pitocin to make my labor go faster. again, very frustrating. so around 11:00 am, i hadn't made any progress and dadi went out to get a bite to eat. my mom and sister had just gotten there and stayed with me. we were sitting around talking when all of the sudden, i started to feel very weird. i looked at my mom and said "i feel funny. get the nurse" so she ran out to get her. everything started to go white and i felt like i was under water. i couldn't hear very well. like i was in a tunnel and i couldn't get my brain to tell my body what to do. i was just in a daze and staring straight ahead. i heard my sister asking me if i was okay but i couldn't make my mouth move to answer her. the nurse came in and gave me some oxygen and my vision started to improve. she also called for the anesthesiologist to come in ASAP. he came in and they had to give me ephedrine because my blood pressure had dropped really low.
it was 74/34. when he gave me the ephedrine, it would come back up for a minute and then go right back down and he had to give me more ephedrine. that made me feel like i was having a heart attack. my chest got tight and so did my throat. i was very scared and started to cry. here's the picture of me with the oxygen and coming out of my daze.
At about 6:30 at night, the doctor came to check on me. i had finally made some progress. i was finally at 9 centimeters. about an hour later, she came to check on me and when she did, she gave me some bad news. she hadn't been correct and i was actually only 6 centimeters. she was so sorry and i was so sad. so my mom, sister, and dadi decided to go and get some food so that i could rest. the doctor gave me another shot of epidural and i tried to sleep. the epidural didn't work at all and i started having very strong contractions. when the nurse came in, i asked her to check me and she did and said i was an 8. so i text messaged dadi and told him i was an eight. he texted back and said they were on their way back. about five minutes later. i started freaking out because the contractions were so strong. i felt like i had to push and i didn't know what to do because the nurse had just checked me but i was only 8 centimeters. a couple more minutes passed and the doctor came to check on me. i was feeling so much pain and i told her that i had to push. she said that she would check me again even though the nurse had just done so a few minutes before. wen she checked me, she said that i was a ten and ready to go. she said "where's your family?" i said "they're on their way back" she said "do you want to wait for them?" i said... "no!! i have to push right now. i don't care!!" so her and the nurse started getting everything ready suiting up and stuff and just as i took in my first breath to push, dadi, my mom and sister walked in. dadi grabbed a leg and my mom grabbed the other and a whopping 13 minutes later and the worst pain ever, the baby was born. i was crying hysterically and freaking out. it was pretty funny looking back on it. i was just so shocked to have had him so fast after waiting all day without any progress. it was so wonderful to have him out!
he looked so small. i thought he was like 6 pounds, but the doctor said no, that he was big. he just looked so small to all of us compared to what we remembered moma being. they weighed him and measured him and he was 8 lbs 10oz and 20 1/2 inches long. about a pound lighter than i had guessed for myself. he was so cute. his head was nice and round. he was perfect. purple, but perfect!
Here's a picture of him in the room the next morning. slightly less purple!
Moma came to see us in the morning and she was so excited to see her baby brother. she got to hold him and give him kisses. it was so great. i just loved it.
we got to come home on Sunday and so far everything is going really well. my milk came in last night. I'm sore but nothing like i was when i had moma so that's nice. i can actually walk!! i think I'm doing better now now than i was when i was pregnant. i have way more energy and I'm not in so much pain any more. i have a different pain now, but it's still mild compared to what i felt like pregnant. I'm so glad we have him. he's so much fun. i told dadi today that i wanted more kids and he gave me the "yeah right" look, but I'm serious. i just love it. i love everything. it's so worth it. i forgot how much i love this stage when they're first born. it's my favorite part.
