Cousin Jill Update

Today I went to visit my cousin again. I was able to drop the kiddos off at the weekly play date and my friend Jamie watched them for me so I could go and be with my family. This afternoon, while I was there, they decided it was best to move her and do the special MRI even though she was not stable. They had to transport her in an ambulance to get to the building. That took over two hours so we just hung out and visited with each other until I had to leave to get the kids. This evening, I went back to the hospital and met my mom there (it is my dad's side of the family but my mom was really close with my auntie nina and wanted to go to offer support) We arrived just as the doctor (head honcho guy) was giving the results from the MRI. He said that in his 26 years of doing this, he has never seen anything like it before. This is the same thing that the hospital she was in last week said. He named so many different things that it could be. They just don't know. They want to take a biopsy of her brain, but they can't get her in until Tuesday to the operating room because the hospital is just insanely backed up right now. It's so bad that they have had to move patients to the ER in order for them to have a bed! So, what they did tell us was that there is something bad happening to her brain. The body has turned on her brain and is attacking it but they need to find out why. They still have not ruled out a tumor (there are dark spots in her brain that they have never seen before so they can't rule out a tumor) it could be some type of autoimmune disease but there are so many that they don't know what to treat for unless they do a spinal tap. What is happening now, is that she has three doctors working on her and two of them are in agreement to go ahead and do a spinal tap and the other one is against it so they need to have a meeting to discuss and come to a solid decision. If they do the spinal tap, the brain could swell further and she would die. If they wait until Tuesday to do the brain biopsy, she could die. But, if they decide to go ahead and do the spinal tap, they could either figure out what it is and treat it much sooner than waiting for Tuesday's surgery or they could rule it out and wait for the biopsy. Because she got bad so fast, the head honcho doctor wants to go ahead with the spinal tap. He thinks it's too risky to wait. But before he does it, he wants all the doctors to be on the same page so he needs to have a meeting with them. The family wants the spinal tap done as well. There is a risk of death if they do it, but there is a big risk of death if they don't. So they just want it to be done but have to wait for the doctors to talk and figure it out. Anyways, that's the latest. She's not any better today but she's not any worse either. She honestly can't get any worse. Meaning her condition of what's going on can't get any worse with her still being alive. She is one step above death right now to be blunt.
Please keep our family in your prayers that she can be comfortable and that the doctors can quickly find what is causing this.

Don't feel bad. At least you guys are reading it together. David and I started reading together with a schedule at the beginning of the year and we've missed some days and so we're off track but we keep going back to it so that's more than we were doing before. Go girl!
