Happy Valentines Day!
We celebrated v-day last night. my mom watched the kids for us and we went to dinner to our favorite restaurant and out to the movies. I checked which movies were playing and there was a "special" showing of a movie that has not come out yet. it's only in select theaters. when i looked at the movie title, i did not recognize it. (when you have a dvr and you record all your TV shows, you never have any clue of what movies are coming out because you never watch commercials!!) so i read up about it and when i saw what it was about. i totally freaked. i had a hunch that mister studly knew just about as little about it as i did since he had never mentioned it and i thought "what a cool surprise for him!" so we were getting ready to leave to go to the movies and he asked me what movies were playing and i said "I'm not telling you, but i found a movie for us" so he was like "ummm... okay.... whatever" and so we went to dinner and then headed to the movies. i wouldn't even let him look at the title's of the movies when i bought the tickets just in case it gave something away to him or if he did know something about it and it would give away the little surprise i had in store for him. so we went in to the movies and i let him look at the ticket. he saw the title of the movie but still didn't know what it was about. (that made me happy). so we are sitting there waiting for the movie to start and the nerds started showing up. you know what I'm talking about.... those nerdy guys that range from anywhere from 15 to 40 that are skinny and nerdy and say weird things and laugh really hard (can anybody guess what the movie is about yet??). The nerds were approaching. we were surrounded by them. it was great. i was one of about 5 females in the whole theater. i could see mister studly's wheels turning in his head but he still wasn't quite sure what was about to happen. then BAM the movie starts and he totally gets it. The movie is called Fan Boys. here's the synopsis...... "A group of friends who are avid "Star Wars" fans travel west to see the Holy Grail of all sci-fi movies, "Star Wars: Episode I." The year is 1999 and for these death star dorks, the "Star Wars" films are more than just movies; they are a way of life. So, after one of the group takes sick, it is nothing short of a moral imperative that the friends break into George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch to watch the seminal sci-fi picture together before its release. Enlisting the help of an estranged friend, who has traded in his Darth Vader mask for a proper day job, the adventure lays way to some extremely funny situations, including an outrageous brawl with some hard-core Trekkies." So the movie starts with the traditional star wars writing that scrolls across the screen and into outer space. and the audience cheers! remember, I'm surrounded by nerds?? they actually cheer. i just knew i was NOT going to enjoy the movie and that i would think it was LAME-O, but it was so stinking funny. i was cracking up the whole time. it's sort of crude in some places, but really super funny. i knew enough about star wars from being married to the ultimate star wars fan to get some of the inside jokes and stuff but not all of them and it was still way funny. i loved it and i totally want to buy it when it comes out on dvd. i was really surprised. after the movie, mister studly said he remembered seeing a review about it a long time ago, but then because we never watch any commercials or whatever, he forgot about it. he was really surprised and happy. it was a good night. and for those of you that don't remember or for my newer readers, my hubby is a huge star wars nerd. he camped out for two weeks when episode I came out which happened to be like a week before our wedding and he has camped out for the following two movies. he was even in a documentary called "the last line" about star wars nerds camping out for the last star wars movie, episode III, which was played in the Hollywood and Newport Beach film festivals and also some international film festivals. so yeah, he's a fan. I'm happy to say he's not a light saber toting, dressed up like the characters, nerd. just a BIG fan and only slightly nerdy.
