So with the new Toy Story movie coming out, we were excited to see that ABC Family would be showing the first 2 Toy Story movies last weekend. We DVR'd them for Moma. All was good until this morning when she asked to watch it again and went off about this new show coming out called "Pretty Little Liars" a show about lies, sex and murder on a "family" network.
So I sat down and watched some of Toy Story with her and saw that they played a Pretty Little Liars commercial nearly every single commercial break. The first one I saw was about sex with a teacher and a student and sex with a father of one of the main characters on the show (the father having sex with a teenage friend of his daughter). As soon as I saw this, I got so pissed!! I mean this is Toy Story! You're going to air this trash during a children's program and have the nerve to call yourself "family" programming??!!??
So anyways... I got ticked and wrote them a nasty email.. here it is.....
I DVR'd Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2 for my 4 year old daughter and I have to say how disappointed I am in your choice of commercials during the show. I allowed my daughter to watch Toy Story while I was getting some chores done. Little did I know or expect ABC "Family" to be showing detailed previews/commercials for your new program "Pretty Little Liars" all throughout the show. A new series about murder mysteries and sex. I have not watched the program and I will NOT be watching it. I found out enough of the disturbing plot when my 4 year old daughter told me all about "Allison getting cut up and dead" this morning just from seeing those commercials you so irresponsibly decided to air during children's programming. I try very hard to censor what my 4 year old watches on TV. I try very hard to be a good mom and not expose her to things that are inappropriate for her age. I was truly disgusted by your choice of commercials during a children's cartoon such as Toy Story. How can you call yourself "family" programing airing shows with such gross plots about sex, murder and lies? When I heard about your other program, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, I was pretty disturbed. A plot about teen pregnancy?? Why would I want to watch something like that on a network that is supposed to be about "family" programing?? I realize that you're in it for the ratings and I understand that but something needs to change if you're going to call yourself "family" programming when you are nothing of the sort! I have learned my lesson and will no longer trust your station to uphold to it's "family" standards. I really hope that my daughter does not have nightmares about being hacked to bits after seeing those commercials. Please rethink your "Family" label or be smart about things and do not air inappropriate commercials during shows that you know little children will be watching. I'm very disappointed.

That is one reason our family doesn't watch ABC Family. It was much better when the channel was owned by Fox.

Disney channel will be showing Toy Story and Toy Story 2 today (6/12) if you want to try a better channel. Although Disney and ABC are run by the same people, so maybe it isn't better.
Thank you for doing that! I have had the same experience. I thought it was cool that they had ABC Family network until I let my kids watch a movie and the same thing happened with the bad commercials advertising inappropriate shows. I haven't let them watch anything on that station for over a year now because even if there's a cute movie on, the commercials are so bad!
